



Coaches Information:
Coach Maria established Power Volleyball Academy in 2005. She has received her USAV Impact and CAP Level I certification. She just finished her third year as the Varsity Volleyball Coach and program director at Trinity Christian Academy. Prior to that she began and developed the athletic program at Stetson Baptist Christian School, where she was the Athletic Director and Volleyball Coach for 5 years. Previously, she served as Head Volleyball coach at Academia Los Pinares, (The Pine Grove Academy), in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, C.A. where one of her teams took 3rd place in the 1997 National Volleyball Championship. Before going to Honduras, she served as the Varsity Volleyball Coach at Bayshore Christian School in Tampa for 7 years and coached with Tampa Bay Juniors Volleyball Club (USAV) for 2 years. Maria graduated with a Sports Management degree from Florida Southern College in 1984 and received her Masters’ Degree from Luther Rice Seminary in Theology and Biblical Studies in 2003. She also holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She is originally from Maryland, then graduated from Deland High School, and received Varsity letters all three years in Volleyball, Basketball and Softball. In her senior year her volleyball and softball teams were District Champions and Regional- runners up. Maria enjoys teaching/coaching young people, and helping them to reach and develop their potential through the avenue of athletics. She enjoys sharing practical truths that kids can live by, both in sports and in life.
This is Liz’s first year with PVA. Liz just finished her volleyball career at Stetson University. This year she set a career high mark of 1023 digs during her four years at Stetson playing libero. Liz is currently from Naperville, Illinois where she played volleyball for Benet Academy. She was an all-conference and all-area selection at Benet Academy and recorded 94 aces, 270 digs, and 420 assists in her career at Benet. She has had three years of coaching experience in Illinois through Club Elite Volleyball Club, Illinois Volleyball Academy, and St. Raphael School. Liz has been trained extensively in Illinois with three years at Club Elite and three years with Sports Performance Volleyball Club where she earned the Sportsmanship Award. She is currently finishing her undergraduate degree in Communications.
This is Karla’s 2nd year with PVA. Karla is currently a junior and the starting setter for Stetson University. Her freshman year she played at Armstrong Atlantic State University. Karla is from Huntington Beach, California where she played for four seasons at Edison HS. She earned first-team All-CIF Southern Section honors as well as first-team all-conference and conference MVP. She recorded 1692 career assists, the second-highest total in school history. She was elected to the Edison HS Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. She was the Orange County Register’s second-team selection and Los Angeles Times top performer in October, 2003. She has coached club volleyball for three years for the 14 and under Junior Olympic boys’ team at Balboa Bay Volleyball Club in California. Her playing experience and training has been with Seal Beach Volleyball Club for four years and three years with the prominent Team Complete Athlete Volleyball Club. Karla is currently working on her degree in History with a minor in Spanish.
This is Rebecca’s 1st year with PVA. Rebecca is currently a sophomore and starting outside hitter for Stetson University. Last year Rebecca received the honor of being selected to the Atlantic Sun Conference all- freshmen team. Rebecca is from Miami, Fl attended the prestigious Gulliver Preparatory School where she earned honorable mention All-State honors as a senior. She was a two-time first-team All-Miami Dade County performer and a five-year letter winner and four-time all-county honoree. She helped lead Gulliver Prep to five consecutive district championships as well as a regional title and state final four appearances (2000). She was also an All-State softball player and all-conference basketball player. Rebecca has coached previously at Stetson University’s Volleyball Clinics and Summer Camps. She has had three years of playing and training through the South Florida Volleyball Club in Miami. She is currently pursuing a degree in Psychology. |
